We strongly recommend that registration forms are sent to us as soon as possible. We can process application forms throughout the summer.

Our deadline for receiving completed registration forms for the October/November 2010 exams is Monday 2nd August. We are unable to process applications after this date.

Access Arrangements and Special Educational Needs

Students who already have a recent assessment undertaken by an educational psychologist or suitably qualified specialist
If access arrangements such as additional time and the use of a word processor during exams, is required, the deadline for submitting applications is Monday 19th July 2010.

Students who do not have a recent assessment and may possibly require access arrangements
The deadline for submitting applications for students who require NSUK to undertake an educational assessment is Thursday 1st July 2010. Please refer to our Special Educational Needs page for further information.

Access Arrangements

Some students require additional support or assistance in order to ensure that they are able to sit exams without being disadvantaged as a result of learning needs they may have. CiE, like all exam boards, permit these access arrangements when there is sufficient evidence to support and justify them.

CiE’s handbook for centres states,
“Access arrangements allow candidates with substantial and long-term disabilities access to the examination and the opportunity to demonstrate their attainment.”

If you have a child who may require access arrangements in order to sit his/her exams, please contact us to discuss these matters. It is vital that you contact us as early as possible and that you make note of the earlier registration deadline that is in place for students who may require access arrangements.

In order to qualify for access arrangements, we will need to see medical, psychological or educational documentary evidence from a suitably qualified professional, clearly indicating the level of disability that the student has to cope with.

NorthStarUK’s Educational Director is qualified to undertake assessments, in the areas of reading and writing, that satisfy CiE’s criteria for access arrangements in these areas. There is an additional fee for this assessment. Once again, it is vital that parents contact us as soon as possible and make note of our earlier registration deadlines.

Whether you have a child studying with NSUK or you are simply looking for an exam centre where your son or daughter can sit CiE exams, you have come to the right place. At NorthStarUK, we are committed to providing support for home educating families – our exam centre is one of the ways that we try to help. We aim to keep our fees as low as possible, and we do not require parents to assist in invigilation. We are ideally located midway between Sheffield and Chesterfield and our local railway station is no more than 100 metres away from our building.

Open to all home educated students – whether they study with NSUK or not

Small exam centre – students sitting exams with no more than 20 others in the same room
